Fundraiser for the Philippines
The damage from the typhoon in the Philippines has been devastating. SAC students are planning to hold a Holiday Bake Sale during Winter Games Day and they will be donating all the proceeds to help with recovery efforts. The school has pledged to match the donations and funds raised. Please help our students help the people of the Philippines by donating items to our bake sale or by donating money. Thank you!

Large Scale Painting

Large Scale Painting students are working on a few different projects this month; they are finishing up the international flags mural, have started the Statue of Liberty mural, are continuing the Sea Life panels for the REC room, and are finishing painting the sets for the Drama Class performance on December 10th. We are excited to see how they turn out!

The Woodside Players are proud to present “Nell’s Christmas Carol.” The production is a modern take on the Charles Dickens holiday classic “A Christmas Carol.” The show’s main character Nell learns a valuable lesson about family, love and of course…fun! The performance will be on Tuesday, December 10th at 1:45. While the show is mainly for the students and teachers, we welcome parents and family members to join us as well!

Freshman and Sophomore Art

Lacy’s art classes just finished a collaborative project with Laura’s Microbiology class. They completed realistic drawings of electron microscope images with colored pencil on paper. The above image is Ksenia’s drawing of red blood cells under a microscope. Very interesting!
Junior and Senior Art

Angie’s art class also did the collaborative project with Laura’s Microbiology class. Their realistic drawings of electron microscope images were completed with graphite and white pastel on grey paper. The above image is Yeji’s drawing of moss under a microscope. So much detail!
Northern California Family Dog Rescue is an urban dog shelter in San Francisco whose dogs need your help!
They rely heavily on a network of foster homes. I (Nataly) am currently working as a volunteer, and we always need more! The opportunities are endless. We can accommodate almost any schedule or skill level and need everything from dog walkers and socializers to occasional drivers, helpers at our weekend events, and both long and short term foster families.
If you are interested in volunteering, or know anyone who is interested in adopting or fostering a dog, please come talk to me!
I can also be reached by email at .
Thank you for your support!!

UC and CSU Applications Due!
Nov. 30 is right around the corner! Everyone is well aware of this impending deadline, but it bears repeating again. For all who are applying to one or more campuses in either of these premier California systems, know that you must hit the SUBMIT button before 11:59 pm on Nov. 30. Of course, I hope that you will do this well before that drop-dead deadline. I am available to assist however I can. As I have repeated often, I would like to review your self-reported coursework before you submit. It’s a little tricky to know how to select the right course, and I can spot any errors when I review. And, of course, I am happy to look over your UC essays to make sure you are presenting your best authentic self!
Financial Aid Presentation–Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7:00 pm
Gary Sipos of College Cash Solutions will give a presentation on College Planning and Funding to ALL INTERESTED PARENTS/GUARDIANS. This will, of course, be of great interest to the families of seniors and Juniors, but should be attended by anyone looking for financial assistance in paying for college. In fact, the earlier you have good financial advice, the better prepared and positioned you will be, so consider attending this informative workshop. Please RSVP your attendance to Debbie at: ddavidson@wissf.org
Campus Visit to the University of San Francisco–Thursday, Dec. 12 at 10:00 am
Seniors who are planning to apply to USF will be going to visit the campus for an information session and a campus tour. We will be taking public transportation to and from the campus using Muni buses. The plan is to leave school around 9:15 and be back in time for afternoon classes. If time allows we can eat lunch on the campus in the dining commons so be sure to bring lunch money. More detailed information will be given as we get closer to the date.
Naviance Reminders
All seniors should be actively using their Naviance accounts to manage their college lists and the application process. (Juniors will be getting their own Naviance accounts early in 2014.) I am inputting all test scores as I receive them, so be sure to let me know your scores as soon as you get them. Remember that once you input the colleges you are applying to, all applicable deadlines appear. And remember, you can use the Journal function within Naviance to keep notes about the colleges, to keep your various account log-in credentials, to keep reminders, etc. Play around with the various functions within your Family Connection portal. There is a lot there of value.
Teacher Recommendation Requests
Seniors needing letters of recommendation from teachers and/or Ariel are urged to make those requests as soon as possible. Though you can initiate an email request through Naviance, you should first be sure to ask those individuals in person. You have all been given information on how to best help your teachers write wonderful references for you. Please do your part to help them help you!
