Message from the Head of School
Thank you to our parents and guardians who attended Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 12th. We hope you enjoyed meeting with your student’s core teachers, and learning about academic plans for the year. We also held our fall Parent Meeting on College Counseling, to help parents and guardians of seniors understand the college application process. If you have questions about your student and college, please email College Counselor Sara Anderson at sanderson@wissf.org. Sara meets with all seniors every Wednesday during the fall, and with all juniors every Wednesday during the spring.

Progress Reports – Wednesday, September 19th
The first progress reports of the year will be sent home with students on Wednesday, September 19th. If you do not have the opportunity to see your child’s report, please email School Office Assistant Anna Yu at ayu@wissf.org for an additional copy.

Fall Potluck & Open House – Friday, September 28th
All students, parents, guardians, and families are invited to attend our first social event of the school year, the Fall Potluck & Open House on Friday, September 28th at 6-7:30 pm. Please bring a dish to share and enjoy each other’s company while we celebrate a successful start to the new school.

As is our tradition, Fall Potluck for Current Families is combined with Open House for Prospective Families. This night gives visitors the opportunity to tour the school with our Admissions Ambassadors while also meeting our community members in a relaxed and festive atmosphere. Parents and Guardians, please contact Ariel if you would like to serve as Parent Ambassadors, helping to greet our visiting families and telling them about Woodside!

Indigenous People’s Day – October 8th
School will be closed on Monday, October 8th in observance of Indigenous People’s Day, which honors the native people of the United States. Classes will resume at 9:30 am on Tuesday, October 9th.

Faculty Meeting – Tuesday, October 9th
We will be holding our monthly faculty meeting on Tuesday, October 9th. 8:30 am classes will be canceled, and all other classes will be held as usual. Students should arrive in time for their 9:30 am classes.

Next Newsletter – Friday, October 12th
Newsletters are emailed home and posted to the website on the Friday after the monthly Faculty Meeting. Be sure to read these important updates every month.

Parents Association
All Woodside Parents and Guardians are automatically members of the Woodside International School Parents Association (WISPA). We encourage you to become active members of this group which supports students and faculty throughout the school year. WISPA focuses on activities, not fundraising! Please contact Ariel at aedwards@wissf.org if you would like to get involved with WISPA! This year, WISPA members have the choice of volunteering to help with:

  • Teachers’ Lunch Program (September-May)
  • Fall Potluck & Open House (September)
  • High School Admissions Fairs (September-November)
  • Fall Dodgeball Sports
  • Spring Table Tennis Sports
  • Walkathon (March)
  • Earth Day Cleanup (April)
  • Graduation & Awards Ceremony (May)
Teachers’ Lunch Program
We are looking for volunteers to provide lunch for teachers on Thursdays throughout the semester. We ask that families bring food or money to feed 12 people, half of whom are vegetarian. Please contact Ariel at aedwards@wissf.org if you are interested in participating. We love our teachers, and they appreciate your support!

IT Guru On Campus
This week, our Information Technology Consultant, Michael Hamilton, updated all of the school office, technology lab, and faculty computers and iPads. This is an important annual process, and we appreciate his assisting in and out of the classrooms.

Picture Day
Picture Day is being scheduled through a professional company. The school uses these pictures for the yearbook, school files, and ID cards. You will have the option of purchasing photo packages, and details will be provided soon. Seniors will take two photos, one in graduation caps and gowns. You will receive an email from Ariel once the details are finalized.

Facebook & Instagram
All are encouraged to follow us on Facebook and Instagram. This week we posted photos and video from the Physics Class and their Egg Drop Experiment. Our Facebook account is “woodside international school” and our Instagram account is “woodside_sf.”

Family Contact Information
Please make sure the school stays apprised of your contact information, including address, phone numbers, and email addresses. The primary way we communicate with families is through email, so it is essential to make sure you are receiving school newsletters and emails from Ariel. Please send any changes to our Administrative Assistant, Anna Yu at ayu@wissf.org. Thank you!
